It might be that they are to everyones tatse, and they do have an odd business model where they keep retiring ranges.

When I first saw the triangular shields I was less impressed. However, I like to think that they are made from press sheets of steel in some semi industrialised foundry in Mordor. I always think of the Mordor Orcs (and White Hand Orcs) as been equipped in a more mass producded way, and the result of a large military-industrial enterprise. SiI have got to like them a little better.

Price wise Mithril are at the pricey end, although some of their basic troops work out about £3-4, a lot of the character miniatures and rare ones can be very pricey. So doing a small force would lead into a lower GW area of cost, but not too bad. I'm not a fan of the Prince August moulds either. I'm not really a fan of them, or the miniatures from the film. I did like the Moria Goblins in design, but not as actual Moria Orcs. I'm even less keen on The Hobbit films.

You're right with the sale gimmicks, and the self limiting of the run of particular miniatures. That had put me off going back to my Orc collection for years, and stopped me from ever doing a mail order until this October.

They did try to keep a core range with the ME codes and then have other lines/ranges added, but they only ran them until stock run out and never kept them up. Mithril have had lots of lovely miniatures over the years which if they kept in production would create a large and impressive range. Here's a useful link to give you an idea of theranges they have produced, and which have gone, over the years:
http://www.miniatures-workshop.com/lostminiswiki/index.php?title=Category:32mm_Series

You are also right on some of the detail being hit and miss, but with Orcs I am not to concerned over that. I do inexplicably like the 'feel' of their ranges, and that must be why I keep coming back to them. I like the look of the Barrow Wights.

I have been sent a feedback form from Mithril after my order, so might fill it in and link my blog. I'll let you know how I get on.
Hope you had a great Halloween. :) Goblin Leehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14931436821182962785noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4266200265116124990.post-74839282427914761042015-11-01T09:22:35.530+00:002015-11-01T09:22:35.530+00:00Very nice to see Mithril given an airing in the ma...Very nice to see Mithril given an airing in the mainline Oldhammer/Warhammer world. The orcs are very good (I don't care for the weird triangular shields though) but I agree with you about the hobbits, elves and ents....they have really strange heads and eyes. Sadly Mithril prices are on a par with GW although I'm a big fan of the Prince August moulds. The minis produced by Grenadier and the mid-80s Citadel line were pretty good, but the ranges were not that extensive and nowadays they are damned hard to get hold of in any numbers. The Mithril line was and is amazingly comprehensive, however, and I do like the minis, though detail is sometimes lacking on them, especially on the faces. I admit I've kicked around the idea of buying a few dozen of them for Skirmishes, and I've got a few of the monsters, like the Barrow-wights, Mewlip and Werewolf. Couldn't stop myself from buying them, they're so pretty. The thing that has stopped me from getting into Mithril minis in a big way so far is that the company uses a lot of dumb sales gimmicks that are sort of off-putting to me, personally. Your collection here is lovely, though, and I'm very envious. I'd like to see some battle reports from your skirmishes with these lads! Happy Halloween!Mousehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16662424384597893661noreply@blogger.com
