I wanted to get that dark look without losing the detail, I am pleased you think I have achieved that.

It is strange that many of Bob Olley's miniatures only look good until they are painted. I noticed it first with his Goblins, but it was'nt until I started painting the Squats and chatting to people on the Oldhammer forum that it really seemed to be true.

I really do like your Black Orcs. I love the bright colours and the mix of colours used to give them an almost Chaos feel to them. I had looked at your Black Orcs before painting mine, and it was looking at your shields which convinced me to pay more attention to them, although I went for a more Ian Miller look.
I am impressed with the detailing you have achieved on the miniatures and the strength of colours.
Thank you for the link to my blog as well, I shall edit my update with a link to your blog as well. :) Goblin Leehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14931436821182962785noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4266200265116124990.post-52445105490089382672015-03-04T04:13:26.894+00:002015-03-04T04:13:26.894+00:00Fantastic post - I am so happy to see these minis ...Fantastic post - I am so happy to see these minis getting the love and attention they deserve. That's a really interesting point that Olley's sculpts look bad until you actually paint them, and then they all come together. I'd never thought about it in those terms, but I think that's quite true.

As far as your painting goes - I love the Tolkien theme. I also really like how you've managed to keep them very dark, but still are able to show off a lot of the detail and the great Olley texture. It's hard to get that balance, but you've done it.

If your interested, I recently painted up the original 12 minis myself, but in a very different style than yours: much brighter and less gritty. Frankly, I like yours better - they are more menacing. Anyway, my pics are here:

http://www.oldenhammer.com/2014/12/bob-olleys-black-orcs-best-of-iron-claw.html
matthewjksullivanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08126108200355039621noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4266200265116124990.post-74174505954201592732015-02-25T23:57:06.027+00:002015-02-25T23:57:06.027+00:00Thank you Ed, I thought they needed to be based be...Thank you Ed, I thought they needed to be based before I photographed them to give them the due they deverve.

Glad you liked the detail shots. I wanted to photograph both the front and the back of the miniatures as people don't often get to see the sculpting of the rear of the models.
Once I had done that I thought it would be a good idea to get a few close up shots of the other details to show people the quality and style of the sculpting. I was really taken by how well the shields looked when painted.

Yes they are a little difficult to find on e-bay. I was suprised I managed to get the last one I needed (the one with the severed head!) and flushed with victory I thought they deserved painting and a blog update of thier own. :) Goblin Leehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14931436821182962785noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4266200265116124990.post-29100964057489311662015-02-25T21:57:24.159+00:002015-02-25T21:57:24.159+00:00Good to see them based, Lee. Wish they weren't so seldom on ebay.Shaitanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06133644752973972045noreply@blogger.com
