Rogue Trader era Horus Heresy Alpha Legion Landspeeders completed.

I have finished painting the Alpha Legion Land Speeder Squadron.

As per my last blog update, I have been painting my Rogue Trader Alpha Legion in the old colours suggested in the artwork in Slaves to Darkness, namely green. I think this makes them look quite striking, and I am quite happy with the result.

They were fine to paint, not fun, but not a chore. For those of you unfamiliar with the models, they are a bit of a task to assemble, and so painting them was the least of the challenge

Enjoy :)

Land Speeder Squadron scouting ahead, looking for Loyalists.
I mounted the Speeders on 60mm round bases to give them a better look and more sturdiness.
I also had a go at a free-hand Alpha Legion banner for the squad leader, which I think looks good enough for the tabletop.
More of a top view.
"Coming right at you!"

I have been busy converting some more Turnip28 stuff, and painting a few more Rogue Trader miniatures. I also am looking to start a bit of an iconic Warhammer Fantasy 3rd Edition Regiment from the Warhammer Armies book. I also want to get some goblins painted at some point too!

  1. The green works so well on these and you've totally achieved the original Alpha Legion look! Great job on the banner, too, it wouldn't be Rogue Trader-era Marines without a banner LOL!

    1. Thank you. I'm surprised how nicely the green looks on the speeders, I thought it would look too bland.
I took the banner design from the Slaves to Darkness book, and you're quite right, it wouldn't be Rogue Trader Marines without a banner!

  2. Great result Lee, not just on the painting, but actually getting 6 of those speeders to stay together at the same time for photographing

    1. Thank you. You are quite right about them being tricky to keep in on piece, that's why I chose the larger 60mm bases to keep them more stable and stop them from toppling or getting knocked.

  3. I particularly like how the addition of different torsos works so nice and how coherent do they all look in these colours. Fantastic stuff!

    1. Thank you Suber. I wanted to keep them looking early Heresy era and quite Marine like, but still give them that Traitor Legion edge. By just adding a few Chaos torsos, and keeping them the same colour I achieved that coherent look but with variations which I was aiming for.
