Goblins and riding lizards!

I have had a busy couple of few days, and so, on the painting front I have'nt done anything! Well, I think I painted a couple of Slann, but they were just filling in a unit so not worth worring about on thier own.

I have though, been sorting out the ordinary slann and the cold one riders, and found that with repairing some old broken ones, I have some spare. So I have decided to make 10 of the spare Slann into converted Cold One riders, inspired by the Slann Cold one riders on the 'Somewhere the tea's getting cold' blog  http://teasgettingcold.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/cold-comfort.html . I'll have a go at greenstuff Jaguar pelts, and maybe Aligator hides too!

This left me with 10 of the same Slann, and so I have decided to put them on  10 of the old Rogue Trader Space Marine Riding Lizards I have laying around. I put a few photos on the end of the photos for this post, so please tell me if it looks good or awful!

As many of you have been  interested by the goblins, I have posted the pictures of a another Warrior regiment of 40 of them, and tried to photo them all. This way you can see them bettter individually rather than just a photograph of a mass of goblins. Less is more.

Except when collecting of course  :)

The Battleline. 40 Goblins

Three goblins with spears. The one on the right is Nikord the Crazy, from the Goblin Battle Chariot mail order flyer.
These three little critters show the clever way Citadel used to take one miniature, and then use it as a basis on which to convert it into other miniatures. They did a lot of that too with the Great Goblins/Gnolls in posted in my last post.

Three more goblins from the same goblin range.
The one on the left is a C13 solid based Night Goblin Champion. The Goblin leader with a cigar is from the 1990's, and made by Heartbreaker (I think it's a Chaz Elliot sculpt.)
C27 Goblin fanatic with Boomerang, a C13 Goblin (based on the same body as Grom from the 1st Regiment of Renown set), and a C27 Mutant goblin called 'beast'. All are solid based.
 Three Iron Claw Goblins.
Three goblins with spears, including one with a red nose, especally for Justin :)
On the left is the Armoured  Chaos Familiar, which I added to the goblins as is reminds me of Brian Froud's Labyrinth goblins. The one on the right is a C12 goblin called 'Leg Biter' .
Standard bearer (with bird house), and two more goblins.
Two goblins, the one on the right being a Iron Claw one with great shoulder detail.

Three goblins, the two with swords being solid based ones.
Just to break up the long procession of goblins, a C20 troll: Hobol Firebreath .
A Giant. He's from the early 1980's, I think he is an old Ral Partha one, but can't recall. Please let me know if you do :)  He's on a 50mm square base to give you an idea of the size.
 Back to the goblins!
The one on the left is a snagga from the old Lord of the Rings range. The other two are musician, and a solid based spearman.
Left and Right are two more Iron Claw goblins. The one in the middle is a C12 goblin, with an added metal shield.
Last three goblins. Solid based on on the left, Iron Claw in the middle, and C12 series on the right.

The Slann (with converted on shield) on the riding lizard (ignore the paintwork on the Slann, he'll be re-painted) .

More photographs of Great Goblins, and other stuff.

As promised, here are a few more pictures of the Great goblin unit, plus a few others. I have approx 120 of them painted up, so I will post more of them at a later date.

Also a sneek peek at some of my goblin Wolf riders, and a few other odds and ends.

Enjoy :)

Great Goblins, 2 handed hammer, 2 handed axe, and bow
 2 handed hammer, mace, axe.
Another axe, stick, and boat-hook spear!

 Sword armed goblins
Mace, and two halberds (which I managed to miss in the photo!)
The 'Norman ' Goblins. These are the nucleus of a different regiment of Great Goblins.
Close up of one of each. On the right is the FTG 14 Gnorman the Gnoll (aka Gilbert the Goblin).
Corbit Shortstuff, Gnome Jester, from SS2 The Dwarf Kings Court. I added him to the Goblins/Gnolls as he seems to fit. Like to think of him on tour perhaps!
FTG 15 Goblin Priest with Mace
Ogre from Reaper miniatures. Sculpted by Bob Olley, this guy is big, thats a 40mm base he's on.
From the back, mainly to just show off the shield  :)
C21 Goblin Wolf riders (with a goblin warrior leader and snotling musician)
Zogbok Maceface (if you don't belive me, check out White Dwarf #87 )
 Rancid Swordsmite
C20 Troll: Grog Stuntycrusher. One of many Trolls, painted and unpainted, to photograph.
C23 Ogre: Hrothyogg.  More to follow soon.
C28 Giant.  Again, several more to be added at a later date.
For the Rogue Trader fans, the Saharduin (Piscean Warrior). I will probably do a seperate Rogue Trader blog at some time, but thought I would add this as I have always liked it.  :)

Ambulls. (in need of a touch up on the paint).
Slann and Great Goblins (Gnolls).

After painting some of the Pygmies I have got distracted with the idea of painting more Slann, painting 10 more scouts, and Slann for the Spawn Band regiments. The Spawn Band are the basic compulsary choice for a 3rd Editon army, and the miniatures themselves are more varied.
I tend to paint the ordinary Slann green, but scouts, jungle braves, and other unusual troops in differing colours based on frogs. The scouts below are loosely based on the Common European frog, and from the old solid based C32 range.

The Goblins are from the old solid based C12 Great Goblin range orginally released as Gnolls of which the  Chariot is also part. I went for a lighter more human-ish flesh tone for them, loosely based on Hoggle from the Labyrinth, although the painting guide in the Forces of Fantasy supplement suggests a ruddy brown.

I am considering updating the blog twice a week, once on sunday, once wednesday. That way people know when to check in for updates, and it stops me from going trigger happy and overloading everyone with hundreds of posts!  Please let me know if you think thats a good idea, and any preferences for  pictures. I'll be posting Slann as I paint them anyway.

10 Scouts, painted as Common frogs
 Front and back
C19 Lizardman Hero with blowpipe, and unusual miniature and useful.  Strangely I cannot find him in any catalogue, but I'm sure he's in one of them. He's not a conversion.
16 Spawn Band Slann. I plan to have them in regiments of 20. The Leader (second from right) is the axe warrior from the Magnificent Sven Scenerio. The standard bearer is the fan bearer from the wizard palanquin.
Side view of the axe slann leader.
Cupacocoa, and an unlisted slann with a club.

FTG13-  The Goblin King (or Gnoll King) chariot. Although not clear in the photo, I painted in Dwarven runes (lifted from Tolkien) the name of the goblin King, Rug Longtooth, taken from the Book of Battalions from the Forces of Fantasy supplement.

Head on.
30 Great goblins, always looking for trouble.
Close up of great goblins with a spear, a stick, and a dagger and mace.
Pitchfork, two-handed sword, and boathook looking spear (and Amish beard)
Combined standard bearer/musician, and two great goblins with maces.
