A 10,000 point Slann army (probably).

After reaching 10,000 views on my blog yesterday, it was suggested by Thantsants that I post a picture of a 10,000 point army.

So I thought I would go for the Slann as I have'nt seen them all on one board as an army, and as it turned out, I still have'nt.   I did'nt have enough room for the Pygmies, Lizardmen, Troglodytes, Bound monsters, and Dragons, but have managed to photograph all the Slann and the Human Slaves in one place.

I do also have about 40 or so Slann for a Spawn Band unit and some of the Cold Ones riders, but they are not in the picture as they need to be assembled and allocated to regiments first. I did add the Cold Ones themselves to the photo to give the impression of them being there.

Also, I must confess I have'nt had time to make an army list this evening as I barely had enough time to unbox the Slann and photograph them . However, to work out an army list for this army would require doubling the army list max/min from Warhammer Armies as is suggested for larger armies. I will work out an army list for them just for fun. At a guess I reckon I have about 10,000 points there though.

For closer views of the army please look at the previous blog entry:

Apart from the Slann, I have been continuing the painting of the Bretonnians, and have managed 14 Knight and a Wizard, and have made a start painting the peasant Rascals.

For the next update I plan to write up an inventory with photos of all the 3rd Edition Army list entries, Ally Contingents, and Mercenary Contingents that I have .
I'll get back to photographing Goblins next week :)

Anyway, enjoy the Slann... :)

 Army Shot.
In this phototgraph are: 8 Slann Wizards on Palanquins; 3 low level Wizards, Kremlo and Gurggl; 10 Warrior Priests; War Altar with 4 Guards; 50 Eagle Warrior; 50 Jaguar Warriors; 50 Aligator Warriors; 140 Spawn Band (well, 139, as I forgot to add one from the box!); 120 Bull Slann; 40 Venom Tribes; 110 Jungle Braves; 25 Scouts; 60 Human Slaves (including 4 Slann Slave Masters); 14 Cold One Warhounds and 6 handlers);  and 65 Cold One Riders (35 of the Riders I left in the box as they are awaiting assembly and painting).

 Right Flank.

 The Emperor.
 Another Side view.
 Bretonnian Knights.
The King and five of the Chevaliers D'Honneur.
I have'nt actually painted the Knights up to fit in an particular regiment, but have been painting them up as individuals.
 The King of Bretonnia.
10 Chevaliers De Norte Dame De Bataille.
2 of the Knights close up.
Level 20 Wizard WIP.
Need to finish off the robes and scarf.
As in Dave Andrews Bretonnian army, I thought I would paint him up blue, as another Adept of the 'Sacre Bleu' cult ;)  .

Bretonnian 3,000 point army list.

I am updating this evening as I am out all day Sunday!

After receiving my Wargames Foundry order, I got distracted from Elves to Bretonnians, and then proceeded to organise, assemble and undercoat them into a 3rd Edition army.

And then started painting them this afternoon.

First of all, here is the army list:

Level 20 Wizard = 240 points

Bound Dragon =300 points

19 Villians, standard bearer, musician, Level 10 with Heavy armour and double handed weapon
 =248 points

19 Villians, standard bearer, musician, Level 10 with Heavy armour and double handed weapon
 =248 points

19 Brigands, standard bearer, musician, Level 10 with Heavy armour and double handed weapon
 =248 points

10 Arblastiers =100 points

3 L'Ordonnace = 180 points

The King, Level 20 Hero, warhorse, barding, heavy armour, hellhoned blade =153 points
and accompaned by,
9 Chevaliers D'Honneur, horse barding, standard bearer =390 points

9 Chevaliers De Norte Dame de Bataille, horse barding, standard bearer, level 15 hero, with Degeneration strike sword = 491 points

4 Noblesse D'Epee,  Shield, standard bearer, Level 10 Hero with shield =232 points

20 Rascals = 80 points

15 Rapsacllions = 60 points

15 Rapsacllions = 60 points

= 3,000 points.

The tactical idea is a hammer and anvil idea.
The Chevaliers D'Honneur and Chevaliers De Norte Dame de Bataille are to advance, with the Dragon flying above, and the Knights shielded by the skirmishing Rapscallions.
The three regiments of halberdiers will advance slowly together, with the Arblasters and Rascals, and under covering fire from the L'Ordanance. The Noblesse D'Epee and wizard will plug gaps where needed .

The paint scheme for the army is to be loosely based on later medieval French.
For the infantry (except Rascals), they will be wearing Red livery with white cross. The knights will be painted with individual colours and shield designs, taken from France and from the Bretonnian paint schemes in White Dwarfs 136-137. I am not going to get too worried about the colours, general medieval knight colours, with Fleur de lis for the king, will do. For the Banners I might use Provences of France.

The models are mostly Citadel, Wargames Foundry re-released Citadel C26 Men at Arms Range, with very few Essex and Alternative Armies (and one Grenadier) models that I had going to waste.

The army on the painting table.
The King and the Chevaliers D'Honneur
The King, he is an old Essex miniatures model.
Chevaliers De Norte Dame de Bataille.
The Knight waving the sword has now been converted into a standard bearer.
Noblesse D'Epee, 5 knights on unbarded horses.
An old Citadel C02 Wizard, and the gold painted Minifigs Aureola Rococo Dragon that I think looks better with the Bretonnians than the Dark Elves.
 Arblastiers, random medieval citadel crossbowmen.
15 Rapsacllions
At 4 points each they are cheap and will act as a useful skirmishing screen that shoots back (even if it's with BS 2).
 15 more Rapsacllions.
 20 Villians.
 20 Villians
 20 Brigands.
The leader is the Tiriel minautre from Hasslefree Minautres, and I included her as she has that Joan of Arc look to her. The model next to her left is an old Citadel cleric which is use as a musician, singing praises instead of playing an instrument.
I have painted this regiment this afternoon, and it's further down the photographs.
20 Rascals, made up of old Citadel peasants, thieves, militia, and a couple of Alternative Armies miniatures.
 Painted up 20 Villians.
I swapped the standard bearer by accident!
Tiriel and the priest. I painted her ages ago, hence why she's already based.
3 Halberdiers with the white cross on red field livery.
Three more Villians. Mix of a C26 Men at Arms, centre a Fighter model, and right a F4 Feudal.
Three more of the Halberdiers, Feudal, Foundry/C26, and Men at Arms.

Knights on the painting table.
These are proving very quick and easy to paint so far.

Wargames Foundry Order, Bretonnians, Snakemen, High Elves, and of course and few Goblins!

After saving up I did a little bit of shopping last week , and received my Wargames Foundry Order yesterday.
I sent off for a few Knights and some footsoldiers to complete my Bretonnian Army and add another cannon to my Empire Army. I have written a provisional army list for them, but will tinker with it an publish it later. I wanted the army to look similar to Dave Andrews famous army in Warhammer Armies, and  Wargames Foundrys War of the Roses range is made up from Citadels old C26 Men at Arms range. They also still produce Citadels the later Men at Arms range (under tha Barons War range), the Norse, Samurai, and the Normans.

I have'nt had a chance to do much painting, but did a couple of test models for Snakemen.

Last week, whilst waiting for the Bretonnians, I was sorting out the High Elves. Again I have written a 3,000 point provisional list, and  realised I have enough cavalry and infantry to do a two seperate armies. So might do a pure cavalry army, or a predominantly Cavalry one loosely based on Forenronds last stand army, and then another army painted to represent a different Kingdom. I've got an Elf casualty somewhere to represent the unfortunate Forenrond!

And to finish, I have photographed  a few more Goblins archers.

 Wargames Foundry Order.
I ordered it on the 19th July, and it arrived on the 23rd, which considering the intervening weekend, is a pretty good turn-around. A friendly 'thank you and enjoy' handwritten on the invoice too.
The Bretonnian army taking shape, with Foundry miniautres in place.
The unsorted Empire army in it's box!
Two free miniatures from my Wargames Foundry order.
A Landschneckt captain, and a Viking archer. Both useful, I needed another archer for my Norse army.
The Wargames Foundry miniatures are ever so slighly smaller than the original Citadel C26 Men at Arms. I assume they re-did the moulds. It does'nt show, but thought I would put on a comparison photo.
 Comparing the Billmen.
The miniatures look really good, especally the mounted Knights, and I am happy with the order.
If you plan on using them with later miniatures (1990's onwards), or Marauder ones, then they look smaller, although some Marauder miniatures were always a little bulky.
One of the lances that came with knights. Not sure what they are made of, but they are copper coloured with a steel looking tip, and are very strong and detailed on the head.
Size comparison. The lance is 10cm long.
 Snakeman test model.
I have gone for a Rattlesnake colours cheme as I did'nt want to paint them green, and I thought a lot of the more colourful snake markings would not translate very well to painting them on the arms.
I also like it as a background idea. They are to be stand-in Fimir for my Dark Elves. As Dark Elves live in Naggarond, which is basically in the North East of the New World then perhaps on their travels in the New World they might meet Rattlesnake like Snakemen living in the south of the New World.
The other work in progress Snakeman test model, showing the head markings.
The High Elf Cavalry army.
Apart from the Dragonlord, some of the army is in need of repainting and tidying up.
I also have 19 of the Regiment of Renown RR10 Elwing's Elven Guard Cavalry to add if needed (I have a spare 1980's Citadel Lord of the Rings Elrond on a Horse to make it up to 20).

10 Shore riders, mounted Elven Archers.
30 horses for the Silver Helms.
The Marauder MB17 High Elf Dragonlord.
Need to do some more detail work, give him a shield, and then varnish/base him.
Mounted General and two Wizards.
44 High Elf riders.
I have the plastic spears to arm them where needed.
2 Elven Attack Chariots.
I seem to be missing one of the Wizard miniatures with Hawk, so I will replace him with the figure currently on a base.
Box of Elves. Mostly High Elves, approx 60 archers and 80 infantry, plus a few Wood Elves.
20 of the cute little critters with bows.
(well I think they are cute!)
Only 20 Goblins I'm afraid in this post as I have'nt had time to photograph more.

Standard Bearer from the Command range, and another of the C12 Bag Blower musicians.
Two later 1980's Goblins either side a Lord of the Rings Snagga Goblin.
Three Iron Claw Goblins.
Two more Iron Claw Goblins, these two wearing pointy conical helmets.
C12 Goblin named Twang, and C12 Goblin named Sniper.
Three more Iron Claw Goblins, this time wearing hoods.
C12 Goblin archer, named Archer!
The other Goblin is a dismounted C21 Wolf rider called Dugblog Bowrider.
and lastly two more Iron Claw Goblins, and a late 1980's Archer.
